Action Plan – Interactive Tool

The action plan incorporates the information from earlier sections to establish what goals are in place, what strategies will be used to deliver these goals, and support performance evaluation. How goals are evaluated varies depending on the business and its priorities but often emphasizes:

  • Return on investment
  • Impact
  • Productivity
  • Error rates
  • Quality
  • Satisfaction measures
  • Growth, &
  • Sales numbers

A rule of thumb is to not pursue more than 6 goals. Additional outputs can be identifies depending on the goal domain, and strategies leveraged. But more goals than this can overwhelm the teams and limit their ability to manage conflicting priorities, opportunities, and incorporate feedback into future implementation efforts.

An action plan is useful for supporting:

  • Consensus
  • Communication
  • Evaluation
  • Alignment, &
  • Focus

Building upon the previous strategic plan sections, identify and document all the goals being pursued during the upcoming term. If useful, you may also want to identify who owns which strategy and who is responsible for evaluating performance (and with what available tools).
